Breakout

Breakout is the classic brick-busting arcade game. Bounce the ball off your paddle to smash every brick in the wall, clearing one colorful layer after another across five levels. Play Breakout online free, with no download and no sign-up, on phone or desktop.

How to play

• Move the paddle with the mouse, a finger drag, or the ← → keys.
• Click or press space to launch the ball off the paddle.
• Keep the ball in play — bounce it up to knock out the bricks above.
• Every brick you break scores points; upper rows are worth more.
• You lose a life if the ball slips past your paddle; you start with three.
• Clear all the bricks to advance; survive five faster levels to win.

The ball bounces at an angle that depends on where it strikes the paddle, so hit it with the edges to steer shots sideways and reach awkward bricks. Aim to punch a channel up one side of the wall — once the ball is trapped above the bricks it clears whole rows on its own. Stay calm as the pace picks up on later levels and keep the paddle centered when you are unsure.
